Ray Kroc, owner of McDonald’s, once said:
“I’m not in the hamburger business. My business is real estate.”
McDonald’s doesn’t make its money flipping burgers. It makes its money owning the land underneath the restaurants. The franchise operators pay rent to McDonald’s. The burgers are just the reason people go to the restaurant, the real value is in the real estate.
